American country music sensation Collins Obinna Chibueze, better known as Shaboozey, has expressed deep pride in his Nigerian roots, saying the country will always be part of his identity.
Shaboozey, who was born and raised in Virginia, U.S., made the statement while speaking on his new song with Nigerian Afrobeats star, Burna Boy, titled Change Your Mind.
Taking to his X handle, the 29-year-old wrote:
“This one feels like a homecoming. Virginia raised me, but Nigeria will always be in my blood — now I get to share that with the world alongside my brother @burnaboy. ‘Change Your Mind’ drops tonight. Grateful, honored, and hope y’all love this song as much as we do!”
Born on May 9, 1995, to Nigerian immigrant parents in Woodbridge, Virginia, Shaboozey began his music career in 2014 with the release of his debut single Jeff Gordon. He rose to global fame after appearing on two tracks from Beyoncé’s 2024 album Cowboy Carter.
His breakout hit A Bar Song (Tipsy) went on to tie Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road as the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.
With his growing international fame, Shaboozey’s collaboration with Burna Boy is being seen by fans as a powerful celebration of his Nigerian heritage and a musical bridge between his American upbringing and African roots.
