The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects linked to Sunday’s attack on the Kofar Kudu palace of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Speaking on Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, said the suspects are now in custody and under investigation.

The attack reportedly involved supporters of the deposed 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, who allegedly stormed the palace gate, causing public unrest. Though details of the suspects have not been made public, Haruna said efforts are ongoing to arrest others involved in the disturbance.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has also set up a special panel to investigate the incident and identify all those responsible.

This latest development follows ongoing tension in Kano since the reinstatement of Emir Sanusi II in May 2024, after the Kano State government repealed the law that led to his removal in 2020. The move has since caused a leadership crisis in the Emirate, with clashes reported between supporters of both traditional rulers.

Police have assured residents of increased security and called for calm as investigations continue.
