A fierce gun battle between security forces and heavily armed bandits on Tuesday led to the death of five security personnel and the killing of 30 bandits in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The attack, which targeted the communities of Kadisau, Raudama, and Sabon Layi, was repelled by a joint operation involving the police, Nigerian Army, and the Nigerian Air Force.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mua’zu, the fallen heroes include three Mobile Police Force officers and two soldiers, while another officer, Ya’u Aliyu, sustained injuries.
“These brave men gave their lives protecting our people. We honour their sacrifice and assure their families of full government support,” Mua’zu stated.
He added that the Governor Dikko Radda-led administration remains committed to ending banditry in the state and restoring peace across all troubled areas.
“We will not rest until every criminal element is eliminated from our territory,” Mua’zu said.
The commissioner called on residents to stay alert and continue supporting security agencies with timely information. He also assured that investigations into the coordinated attack are ongoing and that further updates will be shared with the public.
Faskari LGA has been one of the areas most affected by bandit attacks in recent years, and the state government has stepped up efforts in collaboration with federal security agencies to tackle insecurity.
