Former President Muhammadu Buhari has been discharged from a hospital in the United Kingdom and is currently in recovery, according to his former media aide, Garba Shehu.
Shehu made the announcement on Friday while speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television. He confirmed that the former Nigerian leader is receiving care and gradually regaining strength.
“Buhari has been discharged. It was not as intense as reported,” Shehu said. “He was hospitalized, and now he is being cared for. He is in recovery mode. Each day he gets better, but until it’s all over, you can’t say it is over.”
Shehu added that the 82-year-old former president is in good shape, eats healthy meals, and remains physically active.
“He looked much better after leaving office than before becoming president. At his farm in Daura, he walks for one and a half hours, four times a week,” he said.
The former spokesman also revealed that Buhari was active even during his last visit to the UK before falling ill. “He flooded the streets during his medical check,” Shehu added.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, has spent most of his post-office time in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, engaging in farming and private life.
