A member of the House of Representatives, Usman Midala Balama, has thrown his weight behind the proposal to create Savannah State from the current Borno State. He believes the move will improve governance, security, and resource management in the region.

Speaking at the North-East zonal hearing on the constitution review held in Maiduguri, Midala, who represents the Hawul/Askira-Uba federal constituency, said Borno’s large population and 27 local government areas make it the most suitable state for subdivision in the North-East.

“Borno has the largest population and the highest number of LGAs in the North-East. That makes it the most qualified for state creation,” Midala said.

He added that smaller states are easier to manage and can deliver services more effectively. “With Savannah State, both Borno and Southern Borno will benefit from improved development and security,” he stated.

Midala described the demand for Savannah State as a shared goal among people across all parts of Borno. He urged citizens to support the proposal and encouraged constitutional reviewers to give it serious consideration during the ongoing process.
