Operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were actively deployed across Lagos State on Saturday to monitor the local government elections and prevent electoral fraud.
Officials from Directorates 1 and 2 led by CE Michael Nzekwe, Chief of Staff to the EFCC Chairman, and Ahmed Ghali, Acting Director of Lagos Directorate 2, were positioned at key polling units around Lagos. Their presence was part of a wider security effort to uphold electoral integrity and ensure compliance with the law.
The EFCC’s active role sent a clear message that vote buying and other election-related crimes would not be tolerated. Stakeholders and voters praised the commission’s vigilance, saying it helped reduce attempts to manipulate the elections.
Reports from the field showed the election day was generally peaceful with few disturbances. Other security agencies also commended the EFCC for its teamwork and contribution to maintaining credible elections.
This collaborative effort reflects Nigeria’s ongoing push for transparent and fair democratic processes at all levels of government.
