Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has accused the Federal Government of discriminating against states controlled by opposition parties, claiming his state has been left out in the distribution of key financial interventions and grants.

Speaking at the opening of the State Executive Council meeting in Bauchi on Friday, Governor Mohammed alleged that some states are being favoured based on political alignment. “The Federal Government has a lot of bias against states governed by opposition parties. Some states are receiving preferential treatment,” he said.

He urged the Federal Government to act fairly and avoid politicizing national resources, emphasizing that all states deserve equal treatment regardless of political party.

Amid rising economic pressure, the governor also warned his cabinet against unnecessary travel to Abuja or abroad, stressing the need to reduce spending. “We must prudently manage our scarce resources. The financial pressure is high and we can’t afford wasteful spending,” he cautioned.

On political matters, Governor Mohammed told his appointees to focus on service delivery rather than early politicking. “It is not yet time for politicking. Let us focus on service delivery. Anyone eager to begin political campaigns should resign,” he warned.

He also directed all commissioners to submit actionable project proposals and hinted that unspent funds would be redirected to more urgent sectors. “In the next couple of weeks, I’ll initiate a virement process to channel funds where they are most needed,” he said.

Governor Mohammed reaffirmed his commitment to responsible governance and urged all appointees to work in the interest of the people.
