Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has suspended key officials of the State Reformatory Centre, Babbar Ruga, following a report on the alleged torture and mistreatment of an inmate, Usman Musa. The announcement was made on Friday night by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari.

The suspended officials include the Principal, Abdulzahir Abubakar, Vice Principal Bala Abubakar, and porter Yunusa Yusuf. They were implicated in the incident that resulted in the amputation of the inmate’s left hand and severe injury to his right hand. Additionally, Governor Radda terminated the appointment of Murtala Suleiman, a casual staff member involved in the matter.

The governor has shown compassion towards the victim by approving N970,000 for medical bills and N35 million to procure a sensor-enabled prosthetic hand to aid his recovery and reintegration into society.

Furthermore, the governor has directed the implementation of a committee’s recommendations to upgrade the reformatory centre to meet international standards in correctional management and inmate welfare.
