Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has predicted a Chelsea victory over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled for Sunday in New Jersey, USA.
Both European giants will face off in the first-ever expanded edition of the tournament. PSG reached the final in style, thrashing Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-final, while Chelsea booked their spot with a 2-0 win over Brazilian side Fluminense.
PSG are widely seen as favourites after a dominant season that saw them win a historic treble. However, Mikel Obi believes Chelsea, his former club, have what it takes to pull off a surprise.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Mikel said, “If any team can beat this PSG side, I think it’s Chelsea. The way we’re playing, the team that we got — we’ve got also a very, very good young team as well that can compete.
“They’re very athletic. They have pace, power — that’s something we have as well.”
Mikel, who played over a decade at Chelsea and won multiple trophies including the UEFA Champions League, remains optimistic that the youthful energy and pace in the current Blues squad could give them the edge over PSG.
The final promises a thrilling encounter as Chelsea seek to win their second Club World Cup title, while PSG are hoping to lift their first.
