Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos have rescued an elderly woman who attempted to jump into the lagoon from Carter Bridge.
The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. on Friday while the RRS team was on routine patrol. The woman was stopped just in time and taken to the RRS Headquarters for safety and counseling.
According to a statement shared on the RRS official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the woman was later received by the RRS Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye, who listened to her concerns and allowed her to hold a private discussion with her husband and their 30-year-old son.
Following the meeting, the commander counseled the woman and offered her a cash gift as part of support efforts.
The family expressed gratitude for the timely intervention and the commander’s assistance, both emotional and financial.
The woman has since been released into the care of her husband and son.
This incident highlights the growing concerns around mental health and family-related pressures in urban areas, with security forces playing a more proactive role in crisis intervention.
