The Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has died.

Oba Adetona ascended the throne in 1960 and became one of Nigeria’s longest-serving and most respected traditional rulers. Known for his wisdom, boldness, and outspokenness, he played a key role in Yoruba affairs and was widely respected across the country.
The late monarch’s reign spanned more than six decades, during which he witnessed major political and social changes in Nigeria. His passing marks the end of an era in Ijebuland and traditional leadership in the country.
