The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has praised the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for launching a new initiative aimed at improving security in schools across the country.

In a statement signed by Michael Oyewole, Chief Press Secretary to the NANS President, the student body commended the establishment of 24-hour emergency response centres under a program called the School Protection Squad (SPS). The squad is coordinated by Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Shogunle.

NANS said the move shows strong commitment by the Police to protect students, teachers, and school facilities from increasing threats such as kidnappings and attacks.

“NANS applauds the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for this bold and visionary step,” the statement read. “This is a timely intervention that will help restore confidence in the safety of schools.”

According to the statement, the initiative involves collaboration with other security agencies, school authorities, and community leaders. It also includes the use of modern technologies like CCTV cameras and surveillance drones to monitor school environments.
