Former political ally turned critic, Buba Galadima, says he has forgiven the late President Muhammadu Buhari for all the wrongs he believes were done to him.
Galadima, once a close associate of Buhari and one of the founding members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the statement shortly after news of the former president’s death broke. Speaking in Hausa, he said: “I forgive Buhari for everything he has done to me in life.”
Galadima had worked closely with Buhari during the formation of the APC and in his successful 2015 presidential campaign. He claimed to be the fourth person who signed the APC registration documents.
However, their relationship later soured. Galadima became a fierce critic of Buhari’s leadership, often attacking his policies and calling him a “fraud” who had misled Nigerians for over a decade.
In a past interview, Galadima said Buhari had lost all political relevance and should go home and “wait for death.” He also dismissed both APC members and opposition politicians now flocking to Buhari’s home as “useless people.”
President Buhari died on Sunday in a London hospital after battling an undisclosed illness. His remains are expected to be flown back to Nigeria on Tuesday for burial in Daura, Katsina State.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently leading a Nigerian delegation in London to retrieve the former president’s body.
