ADC Warns Peter Obi: Leaving Coalition May End Your Political Career

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Youth Vanguard has issued a strong warning to former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, urging him not to walk away from the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

The warning follows recent comments by Yunusa Tanko, Director-General of the Obidient Movement, who said on Monday that Obi would run for president in 2027—whether or not he secures the coalition’s ticket. Tanko also called on the ADC to zone its presidential ticket to the South.

Reacting to Tanko’s comments, Comrade Abayomi Bello of the ADC Youth Vanguard said if Obi truly intends to leave the coalition because of ticket concerns, he could be putting his entire political future at risk.

“In the light of reports that Mr. Peter Obi is considering leaving the ADC coalition should he not secure the presidential ticket, we will like to warn that if this truly represents his thinking, the move could mark the end of his political trajectory,” Bello said.

He added that such a decision would damage Obi’s public image as a principled, people-focused leader and instead paint him as just another self-serving politician.

Obi, a former Anambra State governor, has been part of multiple political parties—APGA, PDP, and most recently, Labour Party. ADC stakeholders say another party switch may finally erode public trust in his political consistency and commitment to national development.

“Rather than exit, Mr. Obi has an opportunity to lead from within—by mentoring young leaders, influencing party direction, and building solid structures. That is how legacies are built,” Bello noted.

He warned that coalitions require patience, compromise, and unity, especially for the opposition to have a strong showing in the 2027 general elections.

Obi is yet to personally respond to the statement, but observers say this development could spark deeper political realignments in the coming months.
