Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has strongly condemned those mocking the late President Muhammadu Buhari following his death, calling their actions disgraceful and warning they will “die like stray dogs.”
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) page, Fani-Kayode said it was shameful for anyone to mock the dead, regardless of political or personal opinions. He described those making jokes about Buhari’s passing as “street urchins” and “miscreants” who have lost all sense of decency.
“The sordid and disrespectful things that a malevolent horde of miscreants and malodorous street urchins are posting in the media about the passing of @MBuhari makes the stomach turn,” he wrote.
Fani-Kayode acknowledged that people may have different views about the former president but insisted that mocking someone in death is morally wrong. He urged Nigerians to remember that death is a destiny shared by all.
“Whether you loved or hated him… to make mockery of him in death is unacceptable,” he said. “Those trolling his memory today will die and be buried like stray dogs with few to remember or mourn them.”
He also drew a biblical comparison, noting that King David mourned Saul, his greatest enemy, instead of rejoicing over his death. “David did not mock King Saul… he mourned him and treated him with respect,” he added.
Fani-Kayode encouraged Buhari’s critics to reflect on their own lives and focus on building a legacy rather than spreading hate. He said Buhari had already fulfilled his purpose, was loved by millions, and left behind a lasting legacy.
“His mockers achieve nothing but to expose their own bitterness and lack of manners,” he said. “Their hate will lead them to destruction and send them to hell.”
Fani-Kayode concluded by asking Nigerians to show empathy to the former president’s family and allow them to grieve in peace.
