Troops of Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A have killed two suspected bandits and recovered weapons during a late-evening ambush in Plateau State.
The operation, which took place on Tuesday in the Nteng area of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, followed credible intelligence on the movement of criminal elements in the region.
Security sources said the soldiers laid an ambush along the route the bandits were expected to pass. At about 7:34 p.m., the troops engaged the suspects in a firefight, killing two on the spot.
After the clash, the soldiers combed the area and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 24 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
The recovered items are now in the custody of the military.
According to the source, the area has been reinforced with additional troops to prevent any retaliatory attack or further movement of bandits.
Plateau State has seen increased military activity in recent months as part of efforts to tackle banditry, kidnapping, and communal violence in the region.
