A video of a 15-year-old Secondary School (SS1) student who reportedly bought a Mercedes Benz has gone viral online, stirring public debate over teenage wealth and lifestyle.
The teenager, whose name has not been disclosed, was interviewed by a popular social media personality known as RealCoconutHead1. In the interview, the boy confirmed he bought the luxury car himself, claiming he made the money through Forex trading, a skill he said he learned from his uncle.
Asked why he decided to buy a Benz at such a young age, he replied, “Because other people are using Benz, so I decided I should buy one too.”
When pressed about the cost of the vehicle, the boy refused to give details, saying, “Why do you want to know? Are you planning to pay for me?”
The teenager revealed he was born in 2010 and insisted he has a driver who moves him around since he is not yet of legal driving age. He also mentioned that his mother is late and that he has not seen his father in over two months.
Interestingly, the boy said his father, upon hearing about the car, asked him to return it. According to the student, his father felt the car was too much for someone his age, reportedly saying, “I have never even ridden a bicycle, let alone driven a Benz.”
The incident has raised concerns online, with many Nigerians questioning how a young boy could afford such an expensive car and what role parents or guardians play in guiding the choices of young people. Authorities have not commented on the matter as of the time of this report.
