The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of Mr. Ezekiel Adeniran, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State.
The 41-year-old, who was appointed registrar in January 2025, was found dead at his home in Akure early Thursday morning.
Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, told reporters that two men reportedly forced a substance into the registrar’s mouth before his death. Although the exact location of the attack is still unclear, the police are determined to find those responsible.
“We are doing everything possible to unravel the lies surrounding this case,” Ayanlade said. He urged anyone with information about the killers to come forward, assuring confidentiality for informants.
UNIMED management expressed shock over the killing in a statement issued by its Head of Media and Protocol, Isaac Oluyi. “The devastating news of the registrar’s death has thrown the university into mourning. He was still at work as recently as Monday, July 14. The cause of his death is yet to be confirmed,” the statement said.
The police have launched a full investigation as the university and community mourn the loss of the young registrar.
