The National Chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Comrade Emmanuel Bishop Amakiri, has said that the party’s primary election process is open, fair, and free from manipulation.
Speaking on ABN TV’s Political Perspective, Amakiri praised the Option A4 system adopted by the YPP, describing it as “impossible to rig.” He said the system ensures that party members vote openly and transparently by physically lining up behind their preferred candidates.
“You can’t rig Option A4,” he said. “Everyone sees who you’re voting for. It’s the fairest and most transparent system.”
Option A4 gained national attention during the 1993 elections and has been widely praised for encouraging openness and reducing electoral fraud. YPP is among the few political parties in Nigeria still using the system for its internal primaries.
Amakiri said the party’s use of Option A4 shows its commitment to integrity, grassroots democracy, and fairness.
“There’s no godfatherism in YPP. We don’t impose candidates or do anything in secret,” he added. “We’re building a political system that puts the power back in the hands of the people.”
He confirmed that the party’s primary for the upcoming Anambra State by-election is scheduled for July 19 but might shift to July 21, the last day approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Amakiri expressed confidence that the YPP will produce a credible candidate and retain its seat in the election.
“Our strength comes from a clean and honest internal process,” he said. “That’s why we are always ready for any outcome.”
