Gunmen suspected to be bandits invaded Gyale village in Mansur District of Alkaleri Local Government Area, Bauchi State, on Sunday night, abducting four people and looting several shops.
The attack, which happened around 11:30 p.m., was confirmed by the Bauchi State Police Command. According to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the attackers entered the village through the Yankari Game Reserve.
During the raid, five provision shops were looted before the bandits kidnapped four residents. The victims were identified as Tasiu Malam Yahaya (32), Hakilu Ubayo (15), Abdul Aziz Suleiman (28), and Rabiu Ganjua (16). All four were taken to an unknown location.
Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori-Aliyu, ordered the Divisional Police Officer in Alkaleri, along with local vigilantes and hunters, to begin an immediate search-and-rescue operation.
“The area is now calm, but our operatives are combing the nearby forests to rescue the victims and arrest the culprits,” Wakil stated.
He also said the police are increasing efforts to tackle the growing cases of kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.
