Muhammed Babangida, son of former military president Ibrahim Babangida, has turned down his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu as chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

The decision was made public in a letter dated July 21, 2025, which was shared by Ovation Magazine publisher, Dele Momodu, on Monday. In the letter titled “Declining Appointment as Chairman, Bank of Agriculture,”  Muhammed expressed gratitude for the offer but cited personal and professional reasons for his decision.

“I have decided, with utmost respect, to decline the appointment,” the letter read in part. “This decision was not made lightly. It stems from a convergence of personal and professional considerations, which, at this time, would not allow me to serve with the level of focus and commitment the position rightly demands.”

Muhammed also reaffirmed his support for national development and President Tinubu’s leadership, stating he remained open to serving in other ways.

The rejection has sparked political reactions. Dele Momodu, who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), commented on Instagram, “Well done, Muhammed, for rejecting a Greek gift.”

Muhammed was among several new appointees announced by the presidency just two days ago as part of efforts to restructure key government agencies.
