    Buhari’s Family Thanks Nigerians, World Leaders

    The family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep gratitude to Nigerians, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and world leaders for the overwhelming support and prayers following his passing.

    Speaking on behalf of the family, Buhari’s nephew and elder statesman, Malam Mamman Daura, extended appreciation to President Tinubu and First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu for their “comforting gestures,” including the declaration of a public holiday and renaming the University of Maiduguri after Buhari.

    Daura also thanked Vice President Kashim Shettima for his personal presence in both the UK and Daura during the mourning period, describing his support as “encouraging and heartfelt.”

    “The show of solidarity has given us the strength to bear this great loss with courage. Muhammadu Buhari’s death is an irreparable loss to our family and the nation,” Daura said in a statement on Monday.

    He also acknowledged the condolences from foreign dignitaries, including King Charles III of England, the UN Secretary-General and his deputy, Amina Mohammed, the African Union, ECOWAS leaders, and Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

    The family extended special thanks to state governors who visited Daura or the UK, mentioning those from Katsina, Borno, Kano, Lagos, Kwara, Kaduna, and others, as well as presidential candidates like Peter Obi.

    Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, Yemi Osinbajo, and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe were also praised for their kind words and visits.

    National Assembly leaders, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, were recognized for their support. Appreciation was also extended to SGF George Akume, his predecessor Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and former Chief of Staff Ibrahim Gambari.

    Traditional rulers across the country, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Shehu of Borno, Emir of Gwandu, and host emirs of Katsina and Daura, were also commended for their solidarity.

    Religious leaders, security officials, civil servants, media professionals, and various community and political groups were also acknowledged for their presence and prayers.

    Prominent business leaders, including Aliko Dangote, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Muhammadu Indimi, Dahiru Mangal, Kola Adesina, and Nasiru Danu, were named among those who personally visited the family to offer condolences.

    “The outpouring of love and respect from all corners of Nigeria and beyond was overwhelming. We are deeply grateful for the prayers, the visits, and the support during this difficult time,” Daura said.

    He ended the statement by praying for Allah’s blessings on all who stood with the family, saying, “May the Almighty reward you all.”
