Former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, John Michael Abdul, has been appointed the interim chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state. His appointment marks a major shake-up in Nasarawa’s political space, following mass defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement came during a strategic coalition meeting held in Akwanga Local Government Area. The event was organised by the ADC’s national leadership, led by Senator David Mark.
Alongside Abdul, Jibrin Sabo Keana was named interim secretary, while Senator Patricia Akwashiki was appointed to the party’s Board of Trustees.
Several high-profile politicians were also at the event, including:

– Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi, former Minister of Environment (ex-APC)
– Senator Suleiman Adokwe, three-term lawmaker
– Retired General Nuhu Angbazo, PDP governorship aspirant in 2023
– Abdulkarim Ombamas, former National Assembly member
– Dr. Umar Musa Galadima
– Nathaniel Aboki, 2023 PDP senatorial candidate
– Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, representing Nasarawa South
– Farida Umar, PDP Ex Officio aspirant

In his first speech as interim chairman, Abdul appealed for calm and unity among those interested in joining the party.
“I appeal to the general public, especially those interested in joining the party, to be patient,” Abdul said. “A more expanded meeting will be held at different levels soon.”
This wave of defections and new appointments signals the ADC’s rising influence in Nasarawa ahead of the 2027 elections.
