Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has launched a strong criticism against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing him as the worst Senate President in Nigeria’s history.
Speaking to journalists outside the National Assembly complex on Tuesday, Natasha said she was blocked from entering the Senate despite plans to resume sitting.
She accused Akpabio of running the Senate in an authoritarian manner, likening his leadership style to a “third term governor” of Akwa Ibom State.
“That outburst I had on the floor was just a combination of so many wrongs that Akpabio has meted against me,” she said.
Natasha further stated: “It’s a shame because Nigeria has had great Senate Presidents like Chuba Okadigbo, David Mark, Bukola Saraki, and even Ahmed Lawan. But this is the worst Assembly Nigeria has ever had.”
She alleged that under Akpabio’s leadership, senators are not allowed to freely express their views, especially when their opinions do not align with his.
“Many governors are afraid. You’re not allowed to speak freely. When you try to raise critical issues, you get shut down,” she claimed.
The senator’s suspension and the latest development have continued to stir public interest and raise questions about leadership, freedom of speech, and internal democracy within the Senate.
The Senate President, as at press time, has not publicly responded to the allegations.
