Police in Ondo State have confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the killing of an officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) during a drug raid in Ondo town.
The tragic incident happened on Tuesday during a raid on a residential building in the Ita’nla area, following intelligence reports that illicit drugs were being hidden in the ceiling of the house.
According to sources, while NDLEA operatives searched the building, the officer stood guard outside. Unknown gunmen then appeared and opened fire, hitting the officer. He was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, confirmed the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of a single-barrel firearm believed to have been used in the attack.
“Following the incident, we immediately deployed reinforcements to the area. Four suspects have been apprehended and are currently in custody,” Lawal said in a phone interview.
He assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all those involved in the killing will face justice. The body of the slain NDLEA officer has been deposited at the morgue.
