Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for allegedly neglecting northern Nigeria in the distribution of national resources.
Kwankwaso made the remarks on Thursday during the Kano State Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the 2025 Constitutional Amendment, held in Kano.
According to him, most of the current federal government’s budget allocations are skewed towards the southern part of the country, which he described as unfair and dangerous for national unity.
“From the information available to us, it’s like most of the national budget is now tilting in one direction in this country,” Kwankwaso said.
He warned that the neglect of the North was partly responsible for rising insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment in the region. “That is why we have insecurity, we have poverty and so on. It is happening here mainly, but like a desert, it would go everywhere,” he said.
Kwankwaso also pointed to the poor state of infrastructure, particularly roads in the North, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of focusing development efforts mostly in the South.
He called on the Tinubu-led government to ensure a fair and balanced distribution of national resources across all regions to avoid worsening social and economic tensions in the country.
