Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has issued a stern warning to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are aligning themselves with a newly formed opposition coalition.
Speaking at the PDP Stakeholders Conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the governor, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, said party members must choose where they truly belong.
According to him, it is unacceptable for anyone to claim loyalty to the PDP while also identifying with the opposition coalition, which recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform.
“We cannot take indiscipline to a level where it becomes contagious,” Governor Bala said. “If you are in PDP, you are in PDP. You cannot be in PDP and be in another party or coalition at the same time.”
He described the coalition move as “an aberration” and highlighted that the PDP would no longer tolerate divided loyalty or political double-dealing. In a strong metaphor, he added, “You cannot be a hermaphrodite—you cannot be a man and a woman at the same time.”
Governor Bala’s comments come amid growing concerns within the PDP about internal divisions and weakening unity as the 2027 general elections draw nearer. Party leaders are now pushing for stricter discipline to strengthen the opposition’s chances ahead of future political contests.
