The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has distanced itself from a document circulating online that claims to outline a new dress code for students.

In a public statement released via the university’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, OAU clarified that although the University Council has approved a dress code for students, the version currently going viral is not the one officially approved.

“The attention of the Administration of Obafemi Awolowo University has been drawn to a document on dress code for students, supposedly approved by Council,” the statement read. “Although Council has approved a dress code, what went viral was not the document approved by Council.”

The university assured the public that the official version of the dress code will be released soon. It stated that the guidelines will be aimed at promoting academic focus, decent dressing, and ethical behaviour among students, in line with the school’s motto, “For Learning and Culture.”

OAU urged students, staff, and the general public to disregard the unauthorized document currently in circulation.
