Tinubu: I Skipped WAFCON Final to Avoid High Blood Pressure

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that he could not bring himself to watch the final match of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) due to fear of rising blood pressure.

Speaking at Aso Villa on Monday evening while hosting the victorious Super Falcons, Tinubu said he became very anxious during the game, especially when Nigeria was trailing by two goals.

“Honestly, I did not want to watch the match. I didn’t want high blood pressure,” the President said. “But people came into my room and turned on the TV to that channel. When it was 2-0, I got very restless and very offended. But I was still there watching.”

Nigeria made a remarkable comeback in the final played on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco, defeating the host nation 3-2 after going down 2-0.

Tinubu praised the team for their determination and fighting spirit, describing their victory as a symbol of the strength and resilience of the Nigerian people.
