Former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying Nigerians are not enjoying the “Renewed Hope” that was promised during the 2023 election campaign but are instead experiencing “renewed agony.”

Speaking on Tuesday during Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese Ijebu, Oyinlola said the country’s economy, security, and general living conditions have worsened under the current government.

“When he was campaigning, he promised a Renewed Hope. What we are seeing now is nothing short of bad governance. The economy is in terrible shape, and it’s affecting every Nigerian,” the retired army general said.

Oyinlola, who served as Osun State governor between 2003 and 2010, expressed disappointment over the rising levels of poverty, insecurity, and the overall decline in the quality of life. He pointed to issues like lack of access to medication, food inflation, and persistent violence across the country.

“We have a very bad economy, bad security, and hard-biting poverty. The common man cannot afford basic medication. We are also plagued by religious tension, war, banditry, terrorism, and insurgency. What we have is renewed agony, not renewed hope,” he added.

His comments came shortly after the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the state’s PDP leadership publicly endorsed Tinubu for a second term in 2027. Oyinlola acknowledged the move but described it as a “strategic political decision,” not necessarily a show of support or ideological agreement.

President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” campaign had promised economic revival, better security, and improved living standards, but Nigerians continue to struggle with high inflation, naira instability, and persistent insecurity across regions.
