    Troops Arrest Suspected Gunrunner in Taraba

    Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), working with the Department of State Services (DSS), have uncovered a gunrunning syndicate and arrested a suspected arms dealer in Taraba State.

    The operation was carried out around Ambassador Roundabout in Wukari Local Government Area and led to the arrest of 29-year-old Bulyami Shuaib, a native of Belango Village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

    According to a statement by the Army’s 6 Brigade Public Relations Officer, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the suspect is believed to be a major player in arms trafficking in the region.

    Items recovered during the operation include:

    -362 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

    The suspect is currently in custody and is said to be assisting security operatives with useful information that could lead to more arrests.

    Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, said the Nigerian Army remains committed to working with other security agencies to rid Taraba and its surroundings of armed criminals.

    He also called on the public to continue supporting the military by providing reliable and timely information that can help maintain peace and security across the state.

    Operation Whirl Stroke was launched to fight banditry, arms trafficking, and communal violence in Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, and parts of Niger State.
