The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has suspended its nationwide strike which began on July 29, 2025.

Minister of Health, Prof. Ali Pate, made the announcement on Friday after a closed-door meeting with the union leaders in Abuja. He said the decision was based on agreements reached during the meeting.

“The strike has been suspended following fruitful discussions and understanding between the government and the leadership of the nurses’ association,” Pate told journalists.

However, the union leaders declined to comment publicly after the meeting.

NANNM had earlier called for a warning strike across all public hospitals in the country, accusing the federal government of failing to meet its demands after a 15-day ultimatum issued on July 14, 2025.
