Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Senator Biodun Olujimi, has said that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will not be a major threat to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Politics Today, a political programme on Channels Television on Thursday, Olujimi said Obi’s popularity in the last election was largely due to his eloquence and campaign style, but that it may not work again in 2027.
“The rhetoric of the last election will not work again, except he comes with another gimmick. And you see, this (Tinubu) is a politician, a man who knows the terrain well,” she said.
Olujimi, who also served as Senate Minority Leader, praised President Tinubu’s political experience and structure, saying he is too grounded to be easily defeated in the next election.
Peter Obi, who came third in the 2023 presidential election behind Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and winner Bola Tinubu of the APC, gained strong support from young Nigerians and urban voters. However, Olujimi believes that support may not be enough to secure a win in 2027.
The 2027 elections are already drawing early attention, with many Nigerians watching to see how opposition figures like Obi plan to challenge the ruling party
