A 20-year-old university student has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly stealing his father’s tipper truck worth ₦30 million.
The suspect, Sadiq Abubakar, a 200-level student of Capital City University in Kano, was accused of planning the theft of the truck from his father’s company, Arabab Investment Limited, in Bauchi.
According to a police statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Mohammed Wakil, the complaint was filed on July 25 by the company’s CEO, Alhaji Rabiu Ahmad, who reported that unknown persons had broken into his warehouse, tied up the security guard, and made away with the truck.
The 65-year-old guard was injured in the process and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Following the report, police investigations led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle on July 29 in the Tabarakallah area of Kano State. A driver, Sabo Alhassan (38), was arrested in connection with the case.
During questioning, Alhassan confessed he was hired by a Kano-based car dealer, Abubakar Shehu, to deliver the stolen truck. Shehu, in turn, claimed he bought the truck from the owner’s son, Sadiq Abubakar.
Further interrogation revealed that the student had allegedly conspired with the dealer to steal the vehicle. According to police, the two suspects arrived in Bauchi around 10:07 p.m. on the night of the incident to execute the theft. Both suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue.
