Governor Chukwuma Soludo has strongly criticised politicians from Anambra South who say they will serve only one term if elected Governor, describing such promises as dishonest and insulting to the intelligence of the people.
Speaking during an endorsement rally in Anambra South, Soludo said anyone making such a promise should undergo psychiatric evaluation.
“Anybody, any politician that says that must be sent to a psychiatric home because that person must have a mental problem,” Soludo declared.
He explained that Anambra State follows a zoning arrangement where the governorship rotates among the three senatorial zones — South, Central, and North. With the South currently occupying the seat through Soludo, the next Governor, he said, should come from Anambra Central after his eight-year tenure.
“So anybody who is contesting for Governor from Anambra South is trying to disrupt the zoning system. Some of them want to come and lie to us,” he added.
Soludo, visibly upset, questioned the credibility of some aspirants, saying that people without even secondary school certificates were declaring interest in leading a state known for great leaders like Nnamdi Azikiwe, Alex Ekwueme, and Odumegwu Ojukwu.
“We are not going back. Anambra has moved higher. We have no place for street urchins,” he said.
Soludo, who was elected Governor in 2021, is expected to complete his first term by 2025 and has made clear his intention to serve the full constitutional two terms if given the mandate.
