Two suspected kidnappers were gunned down by a joint team of security operatives during a raid in Edo-Ogwashi-Uku community, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The operation, carried out by men of the Nigerian Army 63 Brigade, Asaba, the Delta State Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and local Edo-Ogwashi vigilante members, also led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, three loaded magazines, and 16 rounds of live ammunition.
The gang, according to reports, had earlier kidnapped two female students of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, and an estate supervisor in separate attacks. The estate supervisor was reportedly shot during his abduction at Ubulu-Okiti.
Human rights activist and security advocate, Comrade Harrison Gwamnishu, confirmed the operation on his social media page, noting that the Delta State Government provided tracking support that helped locate the suspects.
“This successful operation was made possible by the TRACKER from the Delta State Government House, Asaba,” Gwamnishu wrote. He also thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for providing the necessary tools to combat crime in the state.
He praised the efforts of the military commanders, local police, and his security team, especially Intel officer Chidozie Peters, for their swift action and support.
Other members of the criminal gang reportedly escaped the scene with bullet wounds. Security agents have launched a manhunt to track down the fleeing suspects.
The operation is seen as a major win in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and violent crime in Delta State.
