President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dispatched a Presidential Delegation to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to support Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, as they battle for their fifth consecutive Women’s Afrobasket title.
The delegation, led by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, is made up of top government officials and is meant to show the country’s full support for the team.
President Tinubu made the announcement via his official Twitter handle on Sunday, just hours before the final match, describing the D’Tigress as a symbol of “character, discipline, and the Nigerian spirit.”
“Our girls have shown character, discipline, and the Nigerian spirit in every game. As they prepare for the final in two hours, we stand behind them — not just as fans, but as a grateful nation inspired by their excellence,” Tinubu said.
Nigeria’s D’Tigress are aiming for their fifth straight Afrobasket title, a feat that would solidify their dominance in African women’s basketball.
President Tinubu concluded his message with encouragement: “Go for gold. Go for glory, girls!”
The final match is expected to draw massive attention from Nigerians at home and abroad, as the team looks to make history.
