Ondo in Shock Over Two Tragic Deaths

Two tragic incidents have shaken Ondo State as police confirmed the deaths of a young man stabbed by his lover and a missing Point-of-Sale (POS) operator found dead in a locked room.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, the first case happened in Okitipupa, where 24-year-old Augustina Mowarin allegedly stabbed her partner, Michael Ikuedowoni, during a heated argument over infidelity.

Lawal said the couple had been living together for years and were known for frequent quarrels. During one of their fights, Mowarin reportedly picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed Ikuedowoni in the leg. He was rushed to a private hospital but later died from the injury.

Police officers quickly intervened to prevent a mob from attacking the suspect. She was moved from Irele Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further investigation. The case was reportedly delayed by late reporting.

In a separate incident, police discovered the decomposing body of Busayo Joy, a POS operator and graduate of Adekunle Ajasin University, in a padlocked room in Akungba. She had been declared missing after failing to account for N750,000 in daily sales.

Police said officers were forced to break into the room due to a strong smell. Inside, they found Joy’s remains along with items suspected to be used for ritual purposes, including black soap and cowries.

Her boyfriend, who is now missing, is believed to have important information about her death. The body has been taken for autopsy, and the search for the suspect is ongoing.

“These incidents are deeply troubling. We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure justice is served,” Commissioner Lawal said.

Both cases have sparked concern among residents, with many calling for stronger actions against domestic violence and suspected ritual killings.
