A 44-year-old man, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Esho, has been remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ikeja Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba over his alleged involvement in multiple murders and cult-related violence across Lagos State.
The order was issued on Tuesday by Magistrate Mobolaji Tanimola, who ruled that Akinwande be kept in custody for an initial 30 days while awaiting legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The Nigeria Police Force has filed an 11-count charge against Akinwande. These include conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, membership of an unlawful society, threat to life, and causing grievous bodily harm.
According to the police prosecutor, Nosa Uhumwangho, the alleged crimes took place at different times and locations between December 9, 2010, and April 5, 2025. Areas mentioned include Mushin, Surulere, Idi-Araba, and Fadeyi.
One of the most serious accusations involves the killing of two men — 30-year-old Yusuf Bolakale and 23-year-old Yusuf Ramadan — whom Akinwande allegedly shot with an AK-47 rifle at No. 11 Mosalashi Street, Mushin. The defendant was later arrested in the Alagbado area after being on the run.
Another incident dates back to 2010, when Akinwande allegedly shot and killed a 10-year-old girl, Aminat Lateef, who was running an errand in Fadeyi.
The prosecution further alleged that on July 31, 2024, Akinwande killed six people during a violent cult clash in Idi-Araba, with two victims identified as Anyila and Ojajo.
The court has adjourned the matter pending further advice from the DPP.
