Akume Fraudsters Cloned My Voice to Scam Nigerians

    Share

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has raised the alarm over a new scam in which fraudsters have cloned his voice and are using it to deceive people with fake promises of federal government appointments.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Yomi Odunuga, Akume revealed that criminal syndicates are impersonating him by using voice cloning technology and cloned phone numbers to contact high-profile Nigerians, asking them for money in exchange for appointments to government boards and parastatals.

“These fraudsters are telling people they have been shortlisted for federal appointments and are demanding between N5 million and N15 million to process the fake offers,” the statement said.

Akume also disclosed that some of the scammers have been attaching bank account details and fake email addresses to their messages, asking victims to send their CVs along with payment.

He stressed that the federal government’s appointment process is transparent and does not require any form of payment.
