    Edo Govt Hands Over Four Schools to Catholic Mission

    The Edo State Government has officially returned four schools to the Catholic Mission as part of a decision approved by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

    The schools include St. Maria Goretti Girls Grammar School in Benin City, Annunciation Catholic College (ACC) in Irrua, St. Angela’s Girls Grammar School in Uzairue, and Obaseki Primary School (formerly St. Patrick’s Primary School) located on Airport Road, Benin City.

    The handover was confirmed in a letter dated August 6, 2025, from the Ministry of Education. The state said the move was to recognize the Catholic Mission’s long-standing impact on education in Edo.

    The government praised the Catholic Church for its strong record in promoting academic excellence, moral discipline, and community values. It added that many Edo citizens had passed through these schools and benefited from the Mission’s commitment to quality education.

    Governor Okpebholo thanked the Catholic Education Commission and the Archdiocese of Benin City for their continued efforts to shape the minds and character of young people.
