Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, Hon. Rufus Bature, has openly declared his interest in being appointed as a minister by President Bola Tinubu.
Bature made the appeal on Wednesday during a media chat at the APC state headquarters in Jos, saying he is “ably qualified” to replace Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who previously served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs but is now the new National Chairman of the APC.
The ministerial slot for Plateau became vacant following Yilwatda’s recent elevation to the top party position after the resignation of former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Speaking to journalists, Bature said:
“Appointing a minister is at the discretion of President Bola Tinubu, and if he finds me worthy to be one of his cabinet members, I will gladly accept because I am ably qualified.”
Bature also praised the appointment of Yilwatda as APC National Chairman, describing it as a major boost for Plateau State.
He said the choice of Yilwatda followed due process and showed that the state has capable leaders ready to serve at the national level.
“We are happy because the image of Plateau State has been bolstered. The last National Chairman from Plateau was the late Baba Solomon Lar. Now, with Prof. Yilwatda as APC Chairman, we expect even greater things,” he added.
Bature expressed confidence that Yilwatda’s position would strengthen the APC’s chances in the 2027 general elections and give the state better political visibility at the national level.
