The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has admitted to technical issues in the recently released 2025 WASSCE results and has advised candidates to re-check their results after 24 hours.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Department on Thursday, WAEC said it found errors in some subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics, after complaints from candidates.
The council explained that the errors came from a new system called “paper serialization,” which was introduced to reduce exam malpractice. This system, though already used by another national exam body, reportedly caused bugs during result processing.
“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation… However, an internal post result release procedure revealed some technical bugs,” the statement said.
WAEC apologized to affected students and assured the public that it has now fixed the issues. It has temporarily closed the result-checking portal and will reopen it once all corrections are completed.
“We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter… within the next 24 hours,” the statement added.
WAEC said it remains committed to fairness, professionalism, and transparency in all its assessment processes.
