Former Governor of Ogun State and current Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has accused the Dapo Abiodun-led administration of planning to demolish his properties for political reasons.
Daniel, in a statement released on Saturday, described the move as a “blatant disregard for due process and the rule of law,” insisting that it is a targeted attack on him as a political opponent.
The properties in question include his private residence, The Asoludero Court, and the popular *Conference Hotels Limited* in Sagamu. According to him, these buildings were erected many years ago — in 2004, 2013, and 2015 — long before the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022 came into effect.
The senator criticised the recent issuance of “Notice of Contravention” and “Notice to Quit,” calling them illegal and designed to intimidate him.
“This is not a legal process but a thuggish tactic meant to cause damage. Using a new law to go after structures that predate it is clearly political persecution,” Daniel said.
He added that if any infractions existed, demolition should not be the penalty. Instead, proper legal steps should be followed as laid out in the law.
Daniel further called on civil society groups, human rights organisations, and the public to speak out against what he described as an abuse of power.
The clash comes amid rising tensions within the state’s political scene, as Gbenga Daniel and Governor Dapo Abiodun both belong to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but have been known to differ on several political issues.
