The Bauchi State Police Command has rescued two kidnapped victims and killed a suspected bandit during a joint operation near the Yankari Game Reserve.
Police spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said the incident followed an attack on Kataraje village, close to Kalgo and Alkaleri, in the early hours of Friday.
During the attack, which happened around 2:30am, two residents — 60-year-old Alhaji Ango Mallam Idi and 35-year-old Musa Alhaji Shumo — were abducted by gunmen. Two others, Rabiu Sale (50) and Sale Akko (45), sustained injuries during the invasion.
Wakil explained that the police received a distress call from nearby Yalo and Mansur communities around 6am and quickly launched a rescue mission involving a joint team of security operatives.
The team engaged the bandits in a gun battle, killing one of the attackers and recovering an AK-47 rifle at the scene. The two kidnapped victims were later found unharmed and have been reunited with their families.
The injured victims were also treated for their wounds.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by the Bauchi State Police Command to respond quickly to threats and ensure the safety of residents, especially in rural areas vulnerable to attacks by bandits and kidnappers.
