The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has threatened legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a midnight raid on its premises.
In a statement issued by Vitalis Ortese, Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, the EFCC operatives reportedly stormed the library’s amusement park area around 2 a.m. on Sunday during a music party tagged “Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza.”
The EFCC said it acted on credible intelligence about suspected internet fraudsters attending the event. The raid, led by operatives from the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, resulted in the arrest of 93 youths and the seizure of 18 cars and several mobile devices.
However, OOPL management condemned the operation, describing it as a “Gestapo-style invasion” involving over 50 armed men who fired shots and caused panic, leading to injuries as attendees fled in fear.
Ortese claimed no prior notice was given to the library’s security team or the police officers on site. He said the officers did not present a warrant and simply told staff, “We are doing our job.”
The statement demanded a public explanation and apology from EFCC for the disruption and alleged rights violations. It also warned that legal action would be taken if the agency fails to respond.
“The EFCC must explain and apologise for this infringement. If not, we will seek redress through appropriate legal channels,” the statement read.
