In a major move that could bring relief to Nigerians, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the ex-depot price of petrol by N30, lowering it from N850 to N820 per litre. The new price takes effect from Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement by the company’s spokesman, Anthony Chijiena. He said the price cut reflects the refinery’s commitment to national development and to easing the burden of fuel costs on Nigerians.
Located in Lagos, the Dangote Refinery is Africa’s largest, with a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. The refinery has been seen as a game-changer in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, especially at a time when fuel prices have been a source of public concern.
Chijiena added that Dangote will begin using 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks to distribute fuel across the country starting August 15. This move is expected to help reduce transportation costs and improve delivery efficiency.
The refinery’s decision comes as it prepares to launch direct nationwide fuel distribution, a step that could pressure other fuel marketers to also reduce their pump prices.
As of Tuesday evening, petrol prices in Abuja ranged between N885 and N970 per litre. The Dangote reduction is expected to influence a downward adjustment at filling stations in the coming days.
