Senior lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN), has explained why the Federal Government dropped its case against Comfort Emmanson, the female passenger involved in an incident on an Ibom Air flight.
In a statement on Wednesday, Falana said the government lost the moral right to prosecute Emmanson after it failed to properly charge Fuji music star, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, for a similar incident at the Abuja airport.
According to Falana, the Federal Government quickly accepted an apology from KWAM 1 after his unruly behaviour at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and let him go without a proper investigation or trial.
He argued that if one person is pardoned without due process, others should not be treated differently.
“Since citizens have equal rights before the law, the Federal Government will now be accused of discrimination if it punishes other unruly passengers after pardoning KWAM 1,” Falana said.
He added that because of this, the government had no choice but to withdraw the case against Emmanson to avoid being seen as biased.
Recall that Comfort Emmanson was involved in a controversial altercation on an Ibom Air flight earlier this year and was initially facing legal action.
