The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 12 people lost their lives, while five others were injured in a lone trailer accident that occurred in the early hours of Friday in Kano State.
According to the FRSC Sector Commander in Kano, Muhammed Bature, the accident happened around 2:40 a.m. at Samawa Village in Garun Malam Local Government Area, along the Zaria–Kano highway.
Bature explained that the crash involved a DAF CF95 trailer, with registration number KMC 931 ZE, which was loaded with goods. The trailer was carrying 19 people at the time of the accident.
He said the accident occurred after the trailer’s cab detached from its body due to a mechanical fault with the cab hook, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash.
“Out of the 19 people involved, 12 died on the spot, five sustained injuries, and two escaped unhurt,” Bature said.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Nasarawa Hospital mortuary, while the injured victims were rushed to Kura General Hospital for treatment.
The FRSC commander warned drivers to avoid speeding, reckless driving, and using mechanically faulty vehicles, urging them to always carry out proper checks before hitting the road.
