A fire outbreak occurred on Wednesday at a building used by the Oyo State Ministry of Lands, located within the State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan.
The affected facility, which was originally a power house, was being used as a store when the incident happened.
Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement made available on Thursday.
According to him, firemen were quickly deployed to the scene and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
“The fire was caused by electrical sparks which ignited nearby combustibles,” Akinwande said.
He noted that firefighters acted swiftly by cutting off power supply and extinguishing the fire completely.
“No life was lost and no injury was recorded. Properties worth billions of naira were saved during the operation,” he added.
The quick response of the fire service helped avoid a major disaster in the heart of the Oyo State government complex.
